I’m Over It, But I’m Still Under It

Speaking of the weather, which I did at length yesterday, I’m a little under it (the weather) so I’m keeping it short tonight.

I just wanted to mention that I’ve added a new section, in case you haven’t stumbled across it yet. If you scroll down right side,  you’ll see a section called Weather Links (inspired name, I know!).

Since August through November is considered to be peak hurricane season, I’ve posted a live interactive link to the Hurricane Storm Center. (Thanks, Tom!) You can click here and track Atlantic and Pacific Hurricanes and their projected distance from any land mass.

If you choose US Weather at the top, it tracks all severe weather hazards across the US. You can choose a region or a city.

The second link is to the Weather Wunderground. Here, you can type in your town or any (most) town and see what the weather forecast is, humidity, radar activity etc.. This doesn’t actually work here in Smiley, so I have a phone app for my weather. But it will work in most spots. For example, if you live in Ann Arbor, MI your forecast as I write this (which will be over when you read this) is:

Today’s forecast for Smiley, Texas today is 106 and, you guessed it,  sunny!
But it’s supposed to get down to 104 next Monday!

May not have been the best day for yard work…

Just ask Gary!

He’s probably feeling a little under the weather right now, too!

An inexhaustible good nature is one of the most precious gifts of heaven, spreading itself like oil over the troubled sea of thought, and keeping the mind smooth and equable in the roughest weather. ~ Washington Irving

  1. I’m sorry to hear that you’re “under the weather”, Debbie. I know that you wrote this a couple of days ago so I’m hoping that you feel better. Thanks for the cool app for hurricanes and weather. I do plan to use it as I will try to catch up on your blogs. I’m way behind…but it’s never too late, right? You have to be a whole lot stronger than I am to be able to tolerate that kind of heat. I haven’t prayed for the temp to drop to a tolerable one but I think I’ll pray that you might have some relief.

    • Sue – welcome to Fork! I really like the weather apps – so much more efficient for me than trying to find the weather on TV. We’re holding up fine in the heat – but the poor ranchers so need a break in the weather. Mostly we need rain, if you would just pray for rain.

  2. Debbie:

Glad to see you two are hangin’ tuff and I won’t tell you it’s been lower 90’s here in SLC. oops But hey what can ‘ya do? Nice touch about the Hurricane site, (no need for the plug) Just stay safe and sane. BTW, are Texas Wild Bores the same as New Mexico Javalina’s? Now there’s some homework. ha ha. Thanks for the pics as always!

    • Tom – LOL – that’s OK, there was a day when I would have thought lower 90’s was hot ( a day about this time last year when I lived on the beautiful southern Oregon coast and it never got over 75!). I do appreciate the link to the Hurricane site – thank you.

I’d already done the research since I made the mistake of confusing wild (feral) pigs with Javalinas early on in my blog. No, they aren’t the same.
“Although somewhat similar in appearance and habits, feral hogs and javelinas are not related. While feral hogs are indeed true pigs, javelinas belong to a totally separate family of mammals.”
Here’s the link from Keep Texas Wild:http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/learning/resources/keeptexaswild/invaders/hogvsjavelina.phtml
Should you be interested in cooking one over a campfire, the consensus seems to be that feral sows or younger pigs are quite tasty. Not so much with large boars or javalines. 😉

  3. Deb, still following the blog,,but its just so damn hot, too tired to write!! Have spent my nearly 55 years in Texas, and this is the worst summer of record or memory. Glad to see you are hanging in there.

    • Charlie – thanks for continuing to read Fork! While I’m sorry for all Texans this summer, it does make me feel less wimpy when a true Texas thinks it’s pretty hot, too!

  4. I pray every night that it will cool down and rain in Texas but please no hurricanes. However, I think it is VERY important that all gate guards keep a close eye out. After going through the tornado down there last April in a fifth wheel, I can witness the weather can change on a dime.

I am sorry you are not feeling well. I wish I had Captain Kirk’s transporter and I would have brought you to Michigan and you could have gone to the doctor with me yesterday. Picked up an infection and was put on heavy antibotics. The kind that makes your hair stand straight out and kink at the end. lol Infection is artificial hips worse enemy. If they get infected, they have to be removed in most cases. Therefore heavy drugs. Mr. A’s fault. I am not used to living in a dust free environment and we all know he has spent every waing moment cleaning. lol Seriously, take care of yourself.

I THROUGHLY enjoyed the picture of Chad the tool man. We had many wonderful guys down there but no Chad. I am afraid I would have to shuffle Mr. A to the night shift if Chad was on my crew!!

    • Oh Jill – I’m SO sorry to read about your infection. Hope your hair raising medication works as quickly on your infection as it did on your roots! You’ll be in my prayers, of course.
Since this is a public blog and I don’t want to be accused of some form of harassment, I’ll just say, Chad is just as nice as he looks! 😉
Once again, we’ve been blessed with a great group of guys.
      Mr A – you’ve been forewarned!

What do you think?
